Our school was founded by the Dominican Sisters in 1954, within the Parish which is still served by the Dominican Priests. Fr Alex Vickers is our current parish priest and a great supporter of the school. We proudly promote the four pillars of the Dominican Order: Service, Community, Learning and Prayer. As a school within the Brisbane Catholic Archdiocese, we also aim to follow the shared vision to Teach, Challenge and Transform.
We are blessed to have exceptional staff at St Martin's, with the teachers and support staff working collaboratively to ensure the needs of all learners are met. Currently, there are approximately 645 students from Prep to Year 6, from 474 families. Our specialist teaching team includes Music, Italian, Physical Education, and Art. We have a well-resourced Library, along with expansive playgrounds, allowing us to cater for all students. We also offer extra-curricular opportunities for the students including: Instrumental Music, Speech and Drama, Tennis, Aerobics, and other sporting options. St Martin's provides state of the art Outside School Hours Care onsite, including before and after school and vacation care.
I attended St Martin's as a student myself, and feel privileged to be able to return to serve the community as its principal. There are many former students who either work on staff or who are parents and grandparents of current students. This is a great testament to how St Martin's School is regarded within the community.
At St Martin's we believe that education is a partnership between the home and school; the teachers being the formal educators of the students, continuing what was already begun at home. As such, parents are encouraged to take an active part in their children's educational journey as we believe that this is a key factor in a child's success at school. Parents are also encouraged to be involved in school events.
St Martin's is committed to creating a safe and positive school culture. We have implemented the social skills, called Friendology, to strengthen student relationships.
Communication is vital in any relationship and that applies to school. Hence, we encourage open and honest dialogue as we work together for the benefit of the children. Regular communication is provided via the parent portal, newsletter, email and other forms.
Inspired by St Martin de Porres, we are a faith-filled community who “Learn to Love and Love to Learn"
